It has been four years since Alexander Faraway took off from a secret cave housing an alien spacecraft and escaped Earth, at last, to be reunited with his father on Mars.  And in those four years, Alex has grown to be a teenager and has become accustomed to the routines of life in the “Home Base” habitat.  Dart, his robotic Dragonfly guardian is there too and has enjoyed the return to his Home-World and all its familiar landmarks.  

But then, one morning, Dart hears a call from a Monarch of the ancient days.  As impossible as it seems, a Queen of olde yet lives and her summons cannot be disobeyed.  After ten thousand years, the time of the Great Change in the orbit of Mars is at hand and she needs the Guardians of Mars for the battle that must come.  Dart answers the call and flies away, vanishing from Home Base and heading down the Valles Marineris rift valley toward the uncharted Noctis Labrinthus canyons; the Labyrinth of the Night.  And when Alex discovers his loyal Dragonfly has disappeared, the Earthian boy unfurls his latest invention and sets out across the rugged wasteland in search of his robotic friend.  

But on the two moons high above, a dark plot has been set in motion on Earth.  A new, sinister henchman, a “Dark Man”, has been employed by ‘The Others’ in what will be the ultimate infiltration and betrayal of all the remaining Martians still lying far below the red sands in deep hibernation.

In this third book of the ‘Alex Faraway’ series, the restless half-Martian boy must journey passed the point-of-no-return and use his otherworldly abilities to warn and unite a people, he has only seen in dreams, of the cold creatures hunting them in the dark tunnels of Mars.  And Alex must face a shocking truth - a terrible mistake made by his father, years ago, that holds a nexus to The Others.
